Guidelines For Fiction

Podcast

Dark Softly Tales is a weekly podcast of horror, suspense and dark fantasy stories.

What Genre?

Horror, dark fantasy, suspense, pulp, noir, science fiction, and everything that falls between the cracks, if it’s dark—send it. We especially love unraveling twists of madness with a silver lining of innocence.

How many words?

We’re looking for stories between 2000-3000 words. A little more or less is fine. Inquire first for longer stories.

Original or Reprint?

We love both! If it is a reprint, it is your responsibility to make sure you own the rights to the story.

What rights do we ask for?

None. You fully own the rights, but we do ask that you credit Dark Softly Tales Podcast if you seek to republish elsewhere.

Additional notes:

Narration is an intimate form of storytelling that requires alchemy between story and narrator. I will be picky about fiction I choose to narrate. I may absolutely adore your story, but feel my voice is not suited to it. If the story is rejected, please remember that it often isn’t the story itself, but it isn’t what we are looking for. Dark Softly Tales is always rooting for the underdog—new writers are encouraged to submit. <3 Please only send one story at a time. Wait at least two weeks before submitting another story unless otherwise requested. No multiple submissions.

Payment: At this time, there is no monetary payment, but we eventually hope to pay pro-rates.

Response times: Currently, you can expect to hear from us within a week, but that may change.

Check back here for updates.

Important to note: By emailing your story to Dark Softly Tales you are giving us permission to narrate, produce and publish it on Dark Softly Tales Podcast.

Nitty Gritty: Please send your story in standard manuscript format as an attachment to darksoftlytales@gmail.com with FICTION in your subject title. Include a brief bio in your cover letter.
